We all know the importance of inner beauty…but I think every pie should have a touch of outer beauty too. Who doesn’t want to make a good first impression?
Now, I’ve had my fair share of delicious pies hidden in plain old pie crust, but there’s something special about a pretty pie. Plus they’re a hit on instagram/snapchat/your-social-media-of-choice.
The options are endless so I’ve compiled a few creative ideas to get the inspirational juices flowing. Take a peek at my favorite decorative pie crust designs:
1. Braided Crust
You will need an entire extra recipe of dough for this beauty, but trust me–it’s worth it! I spent what felt like forever making this for Abby’s birthday pie, but Bon Appétit’s tutorial was a total savior.
2. Zig Zag Pie
This crust design works great for juicy berry pies and is honestly so easy.
3. Say it With Crust
There are endless options when it comes to adding puns to your pie. But here’s my pro-tip: get some letter cutters. Biggest. Time. Saver.
4. Fall Leaves Crust
This beauty is a perfect design for all your fall pies. Goes great with a pumpkin spice latte #basic
5. DIY Pie Stencils
How cool is this? Studio DIY thought of another fun way to add a few puns to your pie.
6. Crimped Edges
It’s a little touch that adds some pizzaz to your pie. Just crimp with your thumb and forefingers.
7. Patriotic Flag Pie
I promise this jaw-dropping impressive crust is easier than it looks. It will make you the life of every summer BBQ and get you a record number of insta likes.
8. Unique Lattice
Alternating between thin and thick lattice strips makes for a fun unique twist on the traditional crust topper. I’ll be honest the thin strips are definitely more difficult to work with, but just keep them really cold.
9. Floating Lattice
Take another spin on a traditional lattice with what @jojoromancer calls “floating” lattice. Plus that heart crust edging is adorable.
10. DIY Banners
Tap into your crafty side and add a banner. Plus side–no fancy crust technique needed!
